Transmedia Approach to learning

I've been looking at the idea of developing sequences of work using a transmedia strategy. The idea that there are a series of modules of work, each taking place in different media. Typically, this is a tried and tested method for advertising - the target people's attention in multiple places, leading to an outcome that is desired.
I wonder if anyone else is looking at transmedia as a strategy in virtual worlds, where without it the entire picture is incomplete. How are you using it?
